· Oils as Universal
Medicines - In
serving plant functions, essential oils perform many
duties. They regulate plant growth, like
hormones. They help in plant metabolism,
like enzymes. They also provide the
basis for the plant’s immune system, warding off undesirable viruses,
bacteria,
microbes, fungi, parasites, and insects.
When a plant is cut, it bleeds the oleo-gum-resin into the wound
which initiates
healing… They can support and balance our endocrine, circulatory,
digestive,
nervous and reproductive systems. They
can clear our sinuses and lungs to help us breathe better.
They can help us metabolize our nutrients,
minerals and vitamins. They can also
boost the natural defenses of our immune systems so we can fight off
disease by
our own abilities. And while they are
friendly to us, they can be hostile to bacteria, viruses, parasites, and
fungi. In this way they can attack
invading offenders directly.

Antioxidants - As
if the foregoing were not enough to demonstrate the amazing abundance of
healing properties of essential oils, they are also the
world’s most powerful antioxidants that can gobble up free
radicals in our bodies. The ORAC (Oxygen
Radical Absorption Capacity) assay is a laboratory procedure developed
in 1992
at the National Institutes of Aging (NIA) in Silver Springs, Maryland. The ORAC scale has been adopted by the U.S.
Department of Agriculture (USDA) who, in cooperation with scientists at
Tufts
University in Boston, Massachusetts, has recently applied the ORAC assay
to
measure the antioxidant capacities of many foods, juices, and oils. The
higher the ORAC score, the more capable that particular food or oil is
of
destroying free radicals, thus retarding the aging process and
preventing
cancers and other diseases.

sources give ORAC per kilograms whose values
are 10 times higher. When comparing ORAC
values, one must be sure they are in the same units.
In fact,
essential oils have the
highest ORAC scores of all the substances in the world…
While eating foods high in antioxidants is a desirable and very
healthy
thing to do, learning to use essential oils in your daily life can
potentially
be even more desirable and health producing.
The exceptionally high ORAC scores of essential oils partially
explains
why living with them in your daily environment- to breathe, eat, and
apply to
your body- can support all of your systems and contribute effectively
towards
long healthful living, even when used in very small quantities, and even
when
only inhaling them.

pH - “One of
the benefits of incorporating essential oils into one’s daily life is
that they
increase the alkalinity of the body, not because oils are alkaline, but
because
of how they respond to acids. While an
acidic condition in the body will destroy essential oil molecules,
during the
destruction process there are benefits gained by the person. The aggressive parts of an acid are the free
hydrogen ions (H+) that cause bodily damage wherever they circulate. When a therapeutic-grade oil enters the body,
it’s molecules willingly sacrifice themselves to the acid, engulfing and
neutralizing the H+ ions so that you don’t have to suffer their mischief
any
more. With a reduction of H+ ions in the
body, pH is raised toward a healthier alkaline state.”

Emotions - “One
of the most powerful healing aspects of essential oils is their ability
to
penetrate the so called “Blood-Brain Barrier.”
When you breathe oil molecules into the back passages of your
nose, they
go straight to the brain in the central part called the amygdala (or
diencephalon). This is the central
headquarters of the limbic system, which manages your storage and filing
system
for all your emotional experiences. That
part of the brain does not understand words and cannot be communicated
to with
spoken or written language. It responds only to smell. Hence, essential oils
provide a powerful
means to contact that non-verbal portion of our brains that stores our
feelings
and emotions.”

Frequency - “When
molecules of essential oils are inhaled, swallowed, applied to the skin,
or
internalized into your body in any way, they resonate with your bodily
tissues
at the frequency intrinsic to their molecular spectrum as well as their
resultant harmonic and beat frequencies.
This increases your own natural electromagnetic vibrations and
restores
coherence to your electric fields to produce healing and maintain
wellness.”

b PMS – The
Triple Whammy – “The big triple punch
combination of “PMS” (Phenols,
Monoterpenes, and Sesquiterpenes) found in essential oils is probably
one of
the major aspects responsible for the therapeutic power familiar to
essential
oil users. Many oils containing PMS have
been found to be useful in addressing many illnesses, injuries and
disease
conditions. One hypothesis is that this
combination offers the following actions:
First, Cleanse Receptor Sites: Phenols
and phenylpropanoids (as well as
ketones, alcohols and aldehydes) can act to clean receptor sites on the
surfaces of cells. This allows the
proper transfer of hormones, peptides, neurotransmitters, steroids, and
other
intracellular messengers. Second,
Deprogram Bad Information: Sesquiterpenes
seem to work at a
subcellular level by affecting membrane fluidity and facilitating oxygen
transfer. Sesquiterpenes may also affect
transport of material inside the cell.
This allows for access to DNA and RNA which may offer a
scientific basis
for “deprogramming or erasing the incorrect information from cellular
memory”
often referred to in holistic healing circles.
Third, Reprogram Correct
Information: Monoterpenes, working
at both subcellular and intracellular levels, protect against free
radical
damage and work within cells to produce properly programmed strands of
RNA and
DNA. This helps insure proper
cell-to-cell communication and maintain healthy bodily functions. Many refer to this as “reprogramming the
cells.” These three classes of chemical
components may be why essential oils sometimes affect a healing that is
virtually instant and also permanent.
What they simply do is to restore the body back to its natural
state of
balance and health at the most basic and fundamental levels within the
cells.”
